Jose Luis Andino Rodriguez holds family values in the highest esteem. Specifically, the value that family can have when shaping an individual. For Jose, carpentry entered his life at a very young age. When other eight-year-olds were pining for television time after school, Jose was receiving mentorship from his father, who worked as a skilled carpenter constructing conventional and non-conventional building frames. Through his father’s instruction and experience, he found himself more and more drawn to the pursuit of independent carpentry. In his 20s, he realized that he had enough personal experience to make his aspirations a reality, and he hasn’t looked back since. Since founding AND-ROD construction, he has curated a lifestyle where quality time with his loved ones and fostering meaningful relationships with those around him remain at the top of his hierarchy of needs. Outside of his career as a builder, Jose trains dogs, spends time with his family, and takes part in just about every outdoor activity there is. When Jose comes to work, he brings his heart with him, ensuring honesty, integrity, and growth are principles he conveys to clients and his close-knit, skilled team. He works tirelessly to create an environment that is conducive to positive creation and balanced living.

When it comes to any profession, there are a handful of key characteristics and morals that seem to separate great work from unsatisfactory work and hard workers from those who do the bare minimum. Things like attention to detail, a patient and thorough work ethic, and punctuality are all characteristics of a great worker, especially in the trades, but the possession of solid core values is what actually generates these positive characteristics. Luis Andino’s moral compass is well calibrated, as he states that the willingness to do things properly is what drives him, more than anything else, on a professional level. When somebody has this understanding that hard work, done correctly, is valuable not only to those who have paid for the work but to those doing the work, that’s what makes a truly dedicated tradesperson. Values like these are evident in Luis’ ability to complete carpentry and contracting-related projects in a timely manner while maintaining high-tiered professionalism. Motivated by his own personal workplace achievement, he finds gratification in leaving smiles on the faces of clients, ensuring their satisfaction is a priority, and their goals are met. When he can, Luis spends his time touring the beautiful routes throughout the Grey and Bruce Peninsula’s sprawling townships on his motorcycle. Having spent a lot of time working for himself and paving his own way in the world of carpentry and contracting, Luis is a wealth of knowledge. He brings a supreme level of experience and expertise that is instrumental to the And-Rod Construction team.

Many people go through life unsure of what it is they want to spend their time doing. The age-old question: “What are you going to do with your life?” is a difficult one to answer. Unless you know, in your heart, what it is you want to do from a young age. For Joel McFarlane, that was always the case. The environment he grew up in was one immersed in the world of skilled trades. His father worked in construction for his entire life and, along the way, taught Joel a thing or two about building. Thanks to the valuable skills his father passed down, Joel learned how to work with wood, which tools were used for which jobs, and that he undeniably wanted to be a carpenter. In the time that has passed since he was a young child, he has done just that, trying his hand at a few different professions along the way but finding himself constantly drawn back to carpentry. Passionate about what he does, Joel is a skilled carpenter with a laid-back demeanour who functions as an integral part of the And-Rod Construction team. In his free time, he can be found either hiking in the bush around Bruce and Grey County or making quality memories with his family.

What do painters, filmmakers, comedians, and contractors have in common? Though each individual field is vastly different from the next, there is a connecting factor among all of these professions. That factor is creation. Much like a songwriter can make something connective out of seemingly nothing, a carpenter has the ability to create something meaningful where once nothing stood. In a sense, carpenters are one of the original creators. Something that resonated with Riley Bennett. Having a need to live a life enriched by creativity, Riley is passionate about music and has been an avid drummer for the past fourteen years. Having spent years of his youth forming a backbone of knowledge and skill surrounding woodwork, he chose to continue on a path in his adult life that would feed him creatively. When he began building homes, he found immediate fulfillment in the joy that his creations could bring to others, finding satisfaction in his hard work. When the weather’s right, Riley loves to spend his time outdoors. You can find him fishing the local rivers and lakes, hunting the surrounding wilderness areas, or playing ball at one of the areas baseball diamonds. His skilled craftsmanship and creative passions make him a fundamental part of the And-Rod team.

Carpentry is a skilled trade that attracts people from a diverse range of professional backgrounds. Things like creativity, problem-solving, and the gratification that comes when a project is completed are all elements that drew Kirk Neuert to the craft. As a longtime telecommunications employee, Kirk discovered a love of carpentry when he took on a life-changing project that many only dream of: building his own home. Choosing to tackle such a uniquely difficult project, without much of a background in carpentry, speaks to the specific brand of tenacity that he possesses. Allowing himself the creative freedom to develop the exact specifications he wanted gave him a sense of fulfillment and inspired him to keep going. Kirk says that building his own home was both the most challenging and rewarding task he has ever taken on, and that it changed his perception of what he wanted to spend his time doing. Since deciding to pursue carpentry as a career, he has found satisfaction in the improvement of his skills and the positive reactions others have when they see his work. When he isn’t working, you can find Kirk sailing on the waters of Georgian Bay or Lake Huron, outdoors; in the presence of his friends and family, tinkering in his shop, or plotting the beginnings of his next big project. A methodical learning ability, a knack for resourcefulness, and the patience to pursue perfection make him an excellent addition to the And-Rod Construction team.

After years in the service and education industry and dabbling into tech, Vincent Ho discovered that being outside, building things with his hands, and enjoying nature made him happy. He knew he wanted something different, and becoming a carpenter would allow him to be outside, stay active, and pursue his passion for building. After moving to the Peninsula a few years ago, he realized there was a high demand for this trade.
As a carpenter, you provide one of human's basic needs: shelter. Piece by piece, nail by nail, he can provide that to people, and that is something he is truly proud of.
Building his first wall and watching the progress from start to finish provided a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction and further ignited his passion for carpentry.
Vincent has been the perfect addition to the And-Rod team. He is very detail oriented, coachable, and brings with him his positive attitude. While he tends to be a bit quieter than some, he is a nice guy. He’s a foodie at heart and enjoys trying all types of different foods. He is funny, energetic, and easygoing. He’s also a family man. He loves being with his daughter and wife. He enjoys sharing meals with the people he loves, soaking up the sun on the beach, running around after his toddler, and going out on his paddleboard.

From a young age, it was apparent that John Cuffe had an amazing talent. His ability to apply his skills to fix literally anything is a gift passed down by his incredibly skilled and kind father.
Since joining the ANDROD team, John has excelled at everything he does. His favourite job is running the Mini Excavator, but he takes on any big job he can find. His love of machinery repair makes him a super valuable part of the ANDROD team. John’s abilities don't stop there. He also enjoys felling trees, handling materials, and fixing tools.
Residing and growing up on the Bruce Peninsula, John loves fixing, building, and riding four-wheelers, repairing tools, and fixing small engines. After fixing something for someone, John says seeing his handiwork in action brings him joy. He is always there to lend a helping hand and asks for nothing in return. You’ll find Johnny tending to his vegetable garden and relaxing in his spare time and if you are lucky, you can catch a glimpse of him zooming by on his four-wheeler with lights and music bumping!
John is the kind of guy everyone wants on their team.

As someone who has forever been drawn to the natural allure of the outdoor world, Cheri Janknegt found herself inspired by her father’s enthusiasm surrounding plants. As an avid gardener, Cheri’s father imparted his own horticultural wisdom to her, along with an appreciation of the beauty vegetation possesses. This groundwork played a large role in Cheri’s decision to pursue a career in the field of landscaping and landscape gardening. Since she decided to pursue a career outdoors, she has honed her skills and refined her specialties, becoming a wealth of knowledge that others can depend on. As a crew lead at And-Rod Construction, Cheri is someone others can look up to for professionalism, a thorough work ethic, and a cooperative personality. In and outside of work, she values her friendships, being present for loved ones, time spent outdoors, and the satisfaction of a job well done. The beauty of gardening is what inspired her to work in this field, and now she shares her gift with others, ensuring their dream garden/ landscape goals are met…and she still finds time to tend to her own garden in her free time.

A garden is so much more than a selection of plants surrounding the outer portions of your home. A garden is a tailored expression of who someone is, what they are interested in, or even a description of their culinary preferences. People often feel a connection to their garden as if it truly is an extension of their personality or a means to craft their own unique, natural atmosphere. For Hope Wojcik, there is a great sense of gratification that comes from transforming someone’s garden into something they take pride in. This exact feeling, along with an appreciation for working outdoors, is what led her to pursue a career in landscaping at And-Rod. Hope maintains the core values her father instilled in her, believing in the importance of traits like punctuality, taking accountability, and having a genuine interest in the work she does. These traits, along with her physical and mental fortitude, make her a valuable part of the team at And-Rod Construction. When she’s not creating dream gardens for clients, Hope can be found outdoors, embarking on adventures with her friends and family. She loves urban exploration as much as she loves a solid trek through the bush, appreciates a good laugh with friends, a swim in the bay, and getting locked into a great series. Her kind demeanour, team-playing attitude, and the pride she takes in her work; make her a joy to work with and an integral team member.

The path we choose to follow is often influenced by a handful of factors that are unique to us as individuals. Interests blended carefully with the ability to access certain fields, inspirations to follow in the footsteps of those we look up to, and the opportunity to earn our living doing something that is meaningful to us. For Xavier Andino, it was the opportunity to work for his family’s business, specifically with his aunt Cheri, that initiated his interest in working outdoors. As someone who appreciates his time spent outdoors, soaking up the sun, Xavier was drawn to a career that would allow him to be present in that setting on a daily basis. Landscaping offered him the perfect outlet to pursue a new skill in an environment he knew he could thrive in, working with those whose time he valued. Like most who pursue careers in the landscape and carpentry trades, Xavier is a multifaceted individual. To feed his creative side, he maintains a strong foothold in the world of music, playing guitar, bass, the drums, all while adding to a personal library of music that he enjoys listening to. Xavier has a passion for outdoor adventure, spending as much time as he can in the elements in pursuit of adrenaline. During the winter, you can often find him mountainside, snowboarding and taking in the scenery. Remembering the first time he was awarded a healthy tip for his landscaping work, he felt inspired by the knowledge that doing something he loved could also provide for him. Xavier is a charismatic people person, driven by an ability to earn his living by working hard, with great people, in an environment he loves. His positive demeanour and ethic make him an important part of the And-Rod team.

Sometimes we’re unaware of what the exact thing we are meant to be doing is. The gathering of experience, knowledge, and expertise continues to amalgamate as we move on from one position to the next, and every now and then, we end up exactly where we are supposed to be. For Amanda Andino-Rodriguez, that is exactly what happened. Before And-Rod, Amanda had a lust for travel, seeking out worldly adventures wherever she could. Notably, she spent a portion of her adult life travelling across Mexico, living out of her trusty Volkswagen van before deciding to return home. Having grown up in Grey and Bruce, it felt like the perfect place for Amanda to begin a new chapter of her life and start a family. Her time at And-Rod began when Jose Andino-Rodriguez needed assistance with his growing business. Her love for working with numbers, administrative management, and human interaction all made her the perfect candidate for a crucial role within the company, and she hasn’t looked back since. Finding true satisfaction from her work and the people she helps on a day-to-day basis, Amanda is fundamental to And-Rod’s success. Outside of work, you can find her taking in all of the amenities that the Northern Bruce Peninsula has to offer. She is a devoted mother and wife who puts her family first and values their time spent together. She appreciates visiting her cottage, traversing the treed landscapes of the peninsula by bicycle, attending concerts, exploring with her dogs and family, taking boat rides, and finding great dim-sum. Another thing Amanda holds near and dear to her is her love of birdwatching, nature, and wildlife. She passionately dedicates a lot of her free time to educating herself about birds and wildlife; and goes out of her way to spend time in nature with animals, seeking out different birds in their natural habitats. Her family values shine through in her ability to foster meaningful working relationships with clients and colleagues, and together, Amanda and Jose are the founders and co-owners of And-Rod construction. They work with pride to ensure that their unique blend of personal expertise is combined in a way that makes for a fantastic, positive, and successful working environment. Comment

Once you have all of this, there needs to be an ability to keep things organized, inspire positivity in team members, and pay attention to internal needs. For Summer Martin, this task is one she was meant for. Summer has always been a people person. She developed an appreciation for human interaction and connection early on, finding meaning in loyal friendships, artistically fulfilling relationships, and shared humour amongst loved ones. At And-Rod, Summer works hard to provide employees with the tools they need to grow and does so with a constant smile. Summer receives great job satisfaction from the knowledge that she is streamlining someone else’s safe working experience while helping to promote business growth. When she isn’t working, you can find Summer performing with one of her bands in the area, listening to music at her Northern Bruce Peninsula abode, or exploring the many trails and natural areas that the area holds. A truly kind person who values others: Summer is dedicated to the human component of workplace organization. She plays a vital role in the productivity and inner workings of And-Rod.
